Materials and methods: criollo sheep wool hand dyed with natural dyes: Bèé (cochineal), sage and Xiuhquilitl (indigo) . Handwoven on a Zapotec style loom of the 16th century adapted from European styles. Woven using a 7 threads per inch reed and wool rayon blend for warp.
Design, patterns and symbols.
The heron represents the migration routes that our people followed across the Cen Anahuac continent (North America) in order to find places to settle, hunt and gather. The heron has the spiral in the center to represent the spiritual journey to connect with these being to learn its language and see the world through its eyes to learn about food and water sources for our people. There is also a warrior life cycle symbol to represent the warrior spirit needed during this long walks and migration routes following the Great Blue Heron.
