We can arrange for a traditional Zapotec Temazcal with an experienced lady healer (curandera).
The Temazcal is a very small adobe room which is layered with healing herbs, heated with steam created by pouring water outside where the hot stones sit on the fire.
The curandera will direct and help you during the session, she will use a bouquet of plants to gently whip your body in order to condense the steam and release the natural oils of the plants on your skin. Traditionally we go in naked but feel free to enter with a bathing suit if you prefer.
You can go in and out as much as you take the heat, tipically 20 mins at a time. You get to rest wrapped in blankets on a petate (palm woven mat) in between sessions and at the end.
Bring a water bottle, warm clothes and shoes and a towel.
We accept credit cards for all your purchases during your stay. There are no ATMs in the village, the nearest one is 20 minutes drive away in Tlacolula or el Tule.
