Materials and methods: criollo sheep wool hand dyed by Leonor Lazo and Samuel Bautista with bèè (Cochineal) in different shades and hues. Handwoven on a Zapotec style loom of the 16th century adapted from European styles. Woven using a 7 threads per inch reed and wool rayon blend for warp.
Design.
The rug also depicts smile patterns, to remind us that smiling is the source of true healing, a change in our attitude is the first step towards healing. There are stripes that represent rivers, water, the ace of elements. And lastly we have stripes of fire, our grandfather fire, guiding us in this flowered path on earth so that our spuirits can blossom.
