Fire season is just around the corner here in the Central valley of Oaxaca. The community is preparing to clear the fire ways and paths that divide our comunal land from that of other villages. Thus rug depicts the fire pattern in different color combinations along with stripes of seeds, grasses and a hint of rain in the middle to bring in that hope for rain when the situation gets though.
We have stopped doing the dedicated fire tending that our ancestors used to carry on but when a fire occurs in our mountains the fire management committee oversees the situation and if need be they ring the bells to call for help from the community to manage and tend the fire.
Part of our responsibility of living on this land is to do our duty to help maintain a balanced ecosystem and to give back as much as we take from the land.
