This rug depicts the river spirits of timeless beings that roam our land both imparting gifts and knowledge but also death and calamity. The most popular of these beings is la Matlacihua and la Llorona, a beautiful woman that appears near rivers and lures  drunk men with her beauty and charmings until they find themselves drown. Other powerful beings known as Benigui'æ also appear to common people by rivers and bestow upon them visionary or healing powers.
