Design, patterns and symbols.
At the bottom end, this rug depicts five stripes of the smile pattern, the dentated stripe that reminds us that we carry the medicine within and that when we share our smiles we heal together. In the center there are five stripes with the river pattern, the rivers represent the cosmic snake that falls as lightning and turns into rivers to slither around the earth before descending into the underworld. At the top end of this rug we have five stripes of the rain pattern that we call Niis Guiea in our Dishzaa language, the flowered water that makes life possible on earth.
