Design, patterns and symbols.
This rug is a classic design that draws inspiration from the shapes of the rattlesnake scales, the triangle is one of the basic building blocks for our traditional symbols, it is one of the natural shapes that the loom allows to build using the warp and weft in a symmetrical manner. The rhombus is another one of those shapes that come naturally in the evolution of shapes on the loom.
Each color block of these rhombus represent an "energy line" or a wave lenght if you will, a wave lenght that allows us to perceive the world in a certain way. Our ancestors spoke of this concepts in terms of bundles of energy lines where our awareness is fixed. They discovered that with training they could move their awareness so that it anchors on to different energy lines than what we normally use in our day to day life. They discovered that when we dream our awareness moves around our energy field which is about the size of our arms spread wide open, kind of like the magnetic field of the earth. The ancient Nahuales developed techniques to control and shift their awareness to use specific energy lines at will.
We hear in ancient stories, like that of Don Crescendo, where Nahuales would turn into an eagle, a jaguar, wind or lightning in order to save the day or achieve a goal. The teachings of Don Juan describe that our perception can be controlled to move and use specific energy lines that will allow us to communicate with birds, animals or any other energy form on earth. I can imagine nahuales tuning in, into bird language as practiced by native people around the world, or seeing with the eyes of thunder and lightning to predict where it is going to strike and make use of that energy. All these powers are present in our capacity to see and understand the world objectively without any limitations, performing acts that might seem like magic to the untrained eye.
