Materials and methods: criollo sheep wool hand dyed with natural dyes: Zacatlaxcalli (Cuscuta Tinctorea) overdyed with Xiuhquilitl (indigo) and black Zapote (Diospyros Digyna). Handwoven on a Zapotec style loom of the 16th century adapted from European styles. Woven using a 7 threads per inch reed and wool rayon blend for warp.

Design, Patterns and symbols. This design rug is based on the classic stripes of the early 1900 blankets. It depicts different shades of green achieved by overdyeing the Zacatlaxcalli that produces yellow dyes with an after dye of blue from indigo. This year has been a good year for rains as prediceted by the first twelve years of Januray and the night sky observations of midnight during the first hours of the new year. Our fields turned from brown to lush green as seen on this rug, the Dixzaa (Zapotec) word for green is Naga'à, Na is the root word for 'I am' and ga'á relates to the word to do 'gaak', green could be understood with the connotation I am doing, I am photosinthezising to be alive. Just being alive is already an act of creation and consciousness.
