Materials ans methods: criollo sheep wool hand dyed with colorfast aniline dyes using an exhaustive method. Handwoven on a Zapotec style loom of the 16th century adapted from European styles. Woven using a 7 threads per inch reed. 
Weaver: Pedro Mendoza Hipólito, his mom is holding the rug.

This rug represents the many types of soil in Oaxaca, the soil diversity is so rich that most soil maps are over simplified because the soil changes so much even within short distances. UNESCO designated the Mixtec region of Oaxaca as a geopark because of the many layers of soil strata from different geological epochs.
